On the 10th-12th december, 26 boys joined the annual company camp which was held at 24th mile oil palm estate jungle. The excited boys gathered at Chin Daw Methodist Church around 8am. Before entering the bus, camp commander Lcpl Alvin had double checked the number of boys who had arrived and are joining the camp. Then, the journey began!

On the way, many boys were chit-chatting and talking about camping stuffs. Some NCOs led the boys to sing ‘The Anchor Song’ to heat up the BB spirit. After a 1 hour journey, the bus finally arrived at the entrance. But, the boys had to walk 3km to reach their main campsite, it was quite a long walk. Around 12pm, the boys had reached the main campsite and were separated into groups respectively. Then, they quickly made fire to prepare for their lunch. In the meantime, some boys went to clear the tree branches and stems to set their lightweight tents.

Soon, the opening ceremony was inaugurated by Lcpl Alvin as the company camp’s officially started. In the afternoon, the basic camping boys were assigned by Lt Tommy Ting to build a toilet near a river. It was a tough assignment but the boys did their best to build it too. After the sun had gone down, boys quickly prepared and ate their dinner. Few hours later, it was night time, some boys and officers made a big campfire. Then, everyone gathered around the campfire and did many activities together. It was an enjoyable night. Around 1030pm, boys and officers went to have a good night sleep in their tent.

The clock strucked 6am, buglers did their stuffs to wake everyone up. It was the 2nd day, boys quickly prepared themselves for the expedition. After eating their breakfast, they packed their bags and bottles to get ready for it. Around 830am, the expedition started. Boys had a tough 22 kilometers walk. Some of them were tired and sunburned, but nevertheless, they still continued to walk and finally completed their journey around 3pm. Later, the boys went back to the campsite for a short rest. After that, its time for the advanced camping group to ‘advance’ deeper into the jungle. They had to stay there for 1 night with only their belongings, canvas and ropes with them. No officers were there to help them out because they had to do stuffs by their own. So, the basic and advanced level groups were split up for the night.

In a blink of an eye, the last day had arrived, the advanced camping group returned to the main campsite after spending a night in the deep jungle. After that, all the boys had their breakfast and got ready for the closing ceremony. Again, the closing ceremony was done by the camp commander, Lcpl Alvin. Finally, the boys packed their stuffs and left the campsite. Of course, they had to walk another 3km to reach the entrance. Soon after everyone reached there, we took a group photo before we enter the bus. And then its bon voyage! Around 1pm, the bus arrived at Chin Daw Methodist Church. After Lcpl Alvin had checked the number of boys, everyone went back home. It was a tired but good experience for these ‘city boys’ to learn how to survive in the wild.

One of the purpose of this camp is let these “city” boys to experience the real “forest life” where there were no stove for cooking, no toilet, no bathroom, no other things that they can found at home. whatever they need, they need to do it themselves.

They need to build their own tent, build their own toilet, cook for themselve and etc. on the 1st nite, the boys were surprisingly served with wild deer meat. this is 1st time the deer were bbq in front of them.

This is a toilet that build by boys, imagine all of our boys do their “business” in this toilet” and bathing in the river.

After settle down all the camping stuff, expedition is another major activities of this camp, Lt.Tommy, were the leader of this expedition. He bring around our boys for this jungle trekking expedition. Boys need to bring along their own parang to find their direction out.

This expedition was never easy, across small hills, bushes, and some more, there’s some small river they need to cross. apart from that, boys were taught some survival skills during this expedition. Get to know some natural plants, or some fruits that never saw before. They were taught how to differentiate the fruits, plants and what are safe to be eat while the miss in the jungle.

Survival skills is another very interesting topic and experience they learned in this camp. i believe all of them enjoy the camp much as these “city” boys never experienced before.

We hope there will be another interesting camp as this in coming year 2008.
